Summary
This is one of four office buildings that make up North Point Center East. All of them are owned and managed by Cousins Properties.

Since 2005, this particular building has served as the headquarters of one of the most playful companies in Atlanta…Kids II.

Kids II is one of the world’s fastest growing toy companies. They design and sell around 100 different nursery items and toys for infants and children up to two years old under the Bright Starts, Baby Einstein and Disney Baby brands.

More specifically, their product lines include: rattles and teethers, swaddling blankets, baby toys, bath products, bouncers, infant seats, lullaby soothers…the list goes on and it covers a lot of territory.

Kids II sells their products in two ways: directly to public though their online store and to distributors who ultimately place their products in toy stores, children’s specialty shops, as well as the mega-stores stores like Walmart, Mothercare, Toys R Us and Target.

Kids II’s products can be purchased at stores in more than 60 countries around the world.

The company was founded in 1969 by Tom Gunnigle…and now 41 years later, Kids II is still a family owned business. They now have offices at strategic locations all over the world, they employ roughly 300 people and I’m “guesstimating” that their annual revenue is in the neighborhood of $500 million.

Summary
This 10-story building is one of two towers that make up 10 Glenlake Parkway. Today, I’m going to focus on the South tower and I’ll cover the North tower in a future post.

I absolutely love this building. It’s a reminder of why I live in Atlanta and of the massive opportunities that radiate in the Metro Area.

Occupying nearly half of this 260,000 square foot building is the headquarters of Americold Realty Trust and Americold Logistics. Americold is the coolest company in the land. I say that because they’re the largest operator of refrigerated warehouses in the United States.

What they do is simple to understand.

Americold transports and warehouses stuff that needs to be kept cool…that’s an unbelievable task when you consider that they handle 60 billion pounds of freight each year.

They have a network of facilities (appx. 100) throughout the U.S. and Canada which adds up to a total of almost 550,000,000 cubic feet of space for refrigerated, frozen and dry goods.

To put that in perspective, the Louisiana Superdome is 125,000,000 cubic feet. That means that Americold has almost 4.5 Superdomes worth of refrigerated space at it’s disposal.

It’s a good thing too considering their customers include ConAgra, General Mills, Heinz, Tyson Foods and many others. I challenge you to open up any refrigerator anywhere in the United States that doesn’t have at least one item that’s passed through Americold’s hands.

They’re headquarters is right here in Atlanta…awesome! Last year, Americold did $750 million in sales and they employ close to 12,000 people.

Summary
This 225,000 square foot facility is one of several Class-A office buildings that make up Sanctuary Park (an enormous 150-acre development) in Alpharetta.

This particular building has a number of gigantic companies. Microsoft, The Hartford, Motorola, E&J Gallo Winery and Arch Insurance all have offices in this building. Each of them are part of multi-billion dollar operations.

What I find most unique about this building is the third floor.

The entire third floor belongs to Microsoft and serves as one of only nine Microsoft Technology Centers in the United States.

Officially, Microsoft Technology Centers (MTCs) are collaborative environments that provide access to innovative technologies and world-class expertise, enabling you to envision, design, and deploy solutions to meet your exact needs.

In reality, MTC’s are a sales reps dream come truce. They are the ultimate home court advantage and an awesome environment for prospective customers to buy stuff.

It works like this…Microsoft invites prospective customers from all over the place to visit the MTC. The facility is an incredibly attractive, 45,000 square foot space that has every piece of technology imaginable and rivals  Disney World in terms of how everything is displayed (flashing lights, LED sensors, etc).

Prospective customers go through a one-day briefing , custom sessions and so on. But the whole point is that the Microsoft team is going to work with the customer (in real time) to design a tailored solution that the prospect will ultimately buy.

I think it’s a very elegant approach to selling a complicated, high-tech product…very cool.

Estee Lauder Cosmetics

There is one other newsworthy piece of info about this building. For the past several years, Estee Lauder Cosmetics (the makers of Clinique makeup) have had offices in this building. I learned today that they are moving out of their 7,000 square foot suite on the first floor…in fact, they maybe out already.
